Bad Medical Practices and a Pretty River!
Hi friends!
I want to hear one win from you this week! What is something exciting, fun, or just anything you personally consider to be a win! Would love to hear it!
Not that anyone asked but one of my wins is almost mastering not one but two different dances with my amazing finance for our wedding in a couple weeks! Exciting times for me!
Time for some knowledge though!
Blowing Smoke Up Someones Ass
I am very glad I live in a time where medical practices has advanced to there point where they can cure or at least treat many different diseases. Without superstition either! With proper research and peer reviews. It wasn’t always like that though.
You see in the not so super distant past, so the 18th and 19th centuries people used to believe a partial cure for death was warmth. I don’t mean just hypothermia either I mean for death in general!
Mostly for drownings though. They also believed a good way too warm the body was putting smoke in the body. Now what is the best way to do that? You have the mouth but you also have that opening down below. So obviously they took advantage of booth.
Hence the invention of this:
A tobacco smoke enema machine!
In the 1780’s the Royal Humane Society installed resuscitation kits along the River Thames. One of the essential items in these was of course the above. So glad these aren’t around anymore. Can you imagine being pulled out of the water almost drowned and they shoved this into you and filled you with tobacco smoke.

Rainbow River!
Disney’s Encanto came out recently and I instantly became obsessed. Basically became obsessed straight away! But one thing I don’t see that many people specifically talking about is how pretty the river in the movie is.
The river it would be based on would be Caño Cristales (Crystal Channel). This is a 100km long river that is a tributary of the Guayabero River. It is located in the Serranía de la Macarena province of Meta, Columbia.
and this is what it looks like:
Beautiful right?! Those beautiful colours have given this river the nicknames "River of Five Colours" or the "Liquid Rainbow".
Quote of the week
“Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for a kindness.”
-Seneca
Being kind can be so hard sometimes. But I want to commit to at least trying to be kind as often as I can. You know who else is a human you? Being kind to others is fabulous and so is being kind to yourself.
Love you friend!
